3. Take completed form to the Circulation Desk and present a valid
picture ID, preferably your Cabrillo College photo ID.
4. We will attach a barcode to your Cabrillo College ID or issue
you a library card with a library barcode.
5. Be sure to keep your library card as it will continue to be
valid during your tenure at Cabrillo College.
The Library does not charge faculty and staff for lost library cards. Report a stolen or lost card immediately by calling 479-6473. You are responsible for any library materials checked out on your card.
Please report address and phone changes to the library
and personnel office promptly.
CHECKING OUT CIRCULATING MATERIALS
1. Bring materials to the Circulation Desk (report any damaged
materials).
2. Present your Cabrillo College library card.
3. Note the due date for returning the materials.
NOTE: You should have your Cabrillo College library card or college ID card
with library barcode to check out library materials or use reserve materials.
CHECKING OUT PERIODICALS
You may browse through the periodical stacks on your own, or fill
out a periodical request slip and hand it to a Circulation Desk
worker to retrieve the periodical for you.
1. Present periodical and your library card to a Circulation Desk worker
2. An orange charge card will be filled out, on which you print
your name and your college Division or Office
3. The periodical is due one week from the day it was checked
out
NOTE: Please bring your library card with you to identify yourself
when you check out periodicals.
CHECKING OUT RESERVE MATERIALS
If you are a faculty member and wish to check out materials that
you have put on Reserve, ask the library assistant to update the
computer record so that the catalog indicates "instructor
has." If you are not a faculty member, or wish to check out
materials that are on Reserve for other instructors, you must
abide by the time limit that instructor has set. See separate
Reserve handout for policies, fees, and fines. If you are removing
one of your own items from Reserve, ask for the Reserve Coordinator
so that your Reserve information will be properly updated.
LOAN PERIODS
Most books circulate to faculty and classified staff for six months. If you
are a classified staff member, or a faculty member returning to the college
in the following semester, you may renew your books for an additional six months.
If you have questions about the due date, call the Circulation Desk at 479-6473.
Periodicals, Videos, and Vertical File materials circulate for one week.
RECALLS: If someone requests materials that you have had for more than three
weeks, the library will send you a recall notice.
HOLDS/SEARCHES
A hold may be placed on books that are currently in circulation. A search
may be placed on a book that is not currently in its proper shelving location. To
place either a hold or a search, provide any information about the book (title,
author, and call number) to the Circulation Desk. You will be notified
by mail when the item becomes available.
RENEWALS
Books can be renewed if no one else has requested that title. Bring your
library card to the Circulation Desk when renewing books in person. You
may also renew books online at library.cabrillo.edu,
or by telephone (479-6473) when the library is open.
RETURNING MATERIALS
Return Reserve materials, periodicals, and vertical file materials
through the book drop to the right of the circulation counter. All
other books should be returned through the book drop to the left
of the counter, just inside the security gate. Materials
may be returned through the outdoor book drop when the library
is closed.
Do not return damp or damaged materials through a book drop. Please hand
them to a Circulation Desk worker with an explanation of what is wrong. (See
section on DAMAGES below.)
OVERDUES AND BILLS
The library will, as a courtesy, send one overdue notice for books from
the Main/Folio stacks if not returned by the due date. You are responsible for
returning the material by the due date whether or not you receive an overdue
notice for any reason. Material that is overdue will be billed for replacement. If
the overdue material is returned in good condition, all related charges will
be eliminated from your record. Any outstanding charges must be cleared before
you may borrow additional library materials.
Faculty and staff bills must be paid at the Library Circulation desk.
