About the Jimmy Lee Swanson Fantasy Baseball League

The Jimmy Lee Swanson Fantasy Baseball League has been operating for neigh onto two decades now. The commissioner of the league, Mr. Swanson, seldom manages to win his own contest. All of the team owners are living in the greater Santa Cruz, California, area, and are a group of extended family and friends who are baseball nuts united by our love of the game, and our tolerance of the commissioner.

There are eleven teams in the league, with each team consisting of eleven major league players. We only count home runs in this league, so we are irritable about the effects of steroids, how to guess who may be currently using them, and who may be off the juice. The home runs hit by the top ten players are counted for each team, with the eleventh player being there simply as an insurance policy, to use if and when injury or other disaster strikes. The owner whose team amasses the most homers by the end of the season wins. It's simple, easy, and clean. Best yet, it's a well-adapted format for those of us who have problems with advanced math.

It costs $30 to enter. The winner this year (2005) will receive $140, second place $100, third place $60. The owner having the most productive tenth round pick will receive $30. All trash talk is encouraged, and gloating is permissible. Small bucks, big ego on the line.
