Reference Librarians provide high-level assistance to everyone in
the academic community for identification and use of specific information
and resource materials. Reference librarians assist individuals in their navigation
through an increasing wealth of online and print resources, and in negotiating
access to needed materials. The ability to identify, access, and evaluate
information resources is central to the teaching and learning process, and
provides a newly defined set of life-long learning skills: information literacy.
The process of providing reference services leads librarians to in-depth knowledge
of collection and resource needs for library support of the College's curriculum.
This knowledge of user needs is translated smoothly into Collection
Development activities.
