Course Reserve Materials for Cabrillo College Students

Course Reserve materials for many Cabrillo classes are available in the library for students to use. Reserve materials have limited loan periods. Time limits are strictly enforced to ensure fairness to all. Reserve items are subject to a minimum $5.00 fine one minute after they are due; fines continue to accrue until materials are returned.

Checking out Reserves
You must have a current Cabrillo College Library card to check out reserves. One reserve item may be checked out at a time. You may borrow two items if the items must be used together. Note: Special Borrowers may check out Reserves for use within the library, but must relinquish the material to any student requesting it.

  1. Go to the Library Catalog
  2. Search by instructor's last name or by course name or number.
  3. Note Location information!
  4. Note the ITEM # or call number of the title you need. The computer will either show CHECK SHELVES , if the item is available, or it will give a due time and date if the item is checked out.
  5. Bring the number to the Circulation Desk.
  6. Present your library card and a library employee will check the item out to you.
  7. Remember to note the time the Reserve item is due.
  8. Return materials to the book return on the right side of the Circulation counter, or hand them directly to a Circulation employee. You do not need to wait in line to return a reserve item.

When you check out a reserve item you are taking responsibility for the return of the item at or before its due time, even if circumstances are beyond your control.

Renewals
Reserve material may be returned and checked out again in person if no one is waiting for the item. Materials are available on a first-come, first-served basis; students may not request that reserve items be held for them.

Lost Reserves
Please contact Circulation immediately if you lose a Reserve book. If you pay for an instructor-copy Reserve book and then find it, you may need to negotiate a refund with your instructor. The library will not issue refunds for instructor-owned personal copies of reserve materials.

Damages
You may be fined or charged replacement costs for damaged reserve materials.
