Flex week, Janurary 19, 2000
Instructor: Johanna Bowen

Reading, making choices, and selecting a file or site to view are regular activities in the online world.

Interacting with the online world takes place whenever you fill out a dialog box with your own words and then examine the results of your search.

You will learn what to do when you see a dialog box. You will learn to read and select the next step to take: either typing information into a dialog box or, selecting the next file to download and display.

As soon as you are looking at a dialog box in any environment
STOP and THINK about the words you are about to type.
Today we will examine using dialog boxes and checkboxes by:

1. Use the Library catalog to identify books and videos in the library

<

2. Find a fulltext magazine article

What can you do besides read this on your screen?

3. Using an Internet Address

4. Open an email account on the Internet

If you do not have your own email address you can get free email in return for your reading advertising every time you sign on. Not a bad deal.

Each free email site has its own sign-on procedures.

You have to answer all the questions, but you dont have to tell the absolute truth. I like to say that my income is really large -- even if it is only for a moment!

When you are done you will have an instant email account, check your mail

Write your email address here:___________________________________________

Don't forget:

Note: The internet stations in the library are primarily for Information Resources use and for support of instruction at Cabrillo. If students have to use email for their classes they may be asked to use the Open Access lab for this purpose.

When they are done they will have an instant email account and can begin to communicate with their instructor or with their classmates.

Remind students to write down and keep the username and password selected.
