Find Demographic Information

You want some population information for California and Watsonville. To do that
  1. Go to the Cabrillo College Library homepage
  2. Click on Internet Links (third icon down, on left)
  3. Click on Statistics
  4. Scroll down, and under U.S. Government Statistics, click on Census Bureau

    Over on the righthand part of the screen, where it says Population Finder



    change that to California. You'll be taken to a new page.

Where it says Select a city

change that to Watsonville and click Go.

Note down the following information:

White persons, percent 2000

California Labor Market Review is online. This is a monthly publication that reviews labor trends in California. The link is to the July 2007 issue. Click to bring it up, and go to page 3.

Scroll down a bit and look at the table Employment Status by Demographic Group, California. Numbers are in thousands.

As of July 2007, how many females age 16+ were in the labor force in California? Remember: the numbers in the table is in thousands -- add 3 zeros to the number.

California's Employment Development Department has a Labor Market Information page for Santa Cruz County. Scroll down and click on County Snapshot. Scroll down towards the bottom of the page to the pie chart for Santa Cruz County Employment by Industry.

Find Periodical Articles

  1. Go to the Cabrillo College Library homepage
  2. Select Full text Articles 
  3. Under Business and Economics, click on Business Source Premier. [If you are coming in from off campus, your user ID is your library card number]  
  4. On the next screen, click on  so you can search using several search terms
  5. Click in the small box next to Full Text
  6. Type in your search terms.  Then click on Search 

When you get a results list, click on an article title to get to the screen with full information about it.

Use Business Source Premier to search for an article on a topic of interest to you. If you can't think of one offhand, try using Watsonville as a search term. Note down information about one article you find:
