Internet -- Search Engines

Subject lists provide wonderful guidance, but they cover only a small portion of the Internet.  To search more of the Internet, you need to use search engines.
  1. From the Cabrillo College Library homepage, click on Search the Internet
  2. On the next screen, click on Search Engines
  3. On the next screen, click on Google. Google is one of the Web's largest search engines.

Use quotation marks around phrases. Example: a search for otters and Monterey Bay would look like this

    "Monterey Bay" otters
Use Google to search for Web sites on a topic in which you are interested

Note information about one of them here:

Title of Web page you found:________________________________

Its URL (Uniform Resource Locator -- the exact Internet address)

Videos on the Web!!

The Internet world is changing. More and more videos are available on the Web. Since anyone can upload videos, and zillions of people do, the quality is uneven.

The three main outlets for videos on the Web are

Blinkx is the best, in my opinion. Google Video last Fall bought YouTube (for $1.6 billion!) so more changes are coming.

Travel videos are often interesting, especially for parts of the world we don't know much about. Look for a video about one of these places:

  • Shanghai
  • North Korea
  • Kazakhstan
