document. Put your name and the date at the top (right justified). Make

- Click on Laws and Regulations (QUICK HITS, on left) to get to DENTAL BOARD OF CALIFORNIA
- Click on Dental Practice Act (first one listed) which is part of the California Business & Professions Code
- Scroll down to find Chapter 4. Dentistry

Scroll down through the Divisions to Chapter 4. Dentistry. Then to Article 7: Dental Auxiliaries


Click to go to Sections 1740-1777.
1. Read Section 1740. On your Word document, type Dental Practice Act as the heading (centered); then type Dental Hygiene Regulations (left justified). Click to see a sample. Type the number 1 and briefly summarize what Section 1740 says about a career ladder.
2. Read Section 1760. (To find this section, you can use the Find command: hold down Ctrl key and press the letter F and type in 1760 and press Enter and you're there!)

- On your Word document, type 2 a, and then write what the practice of dental hygiene includes.
- On your Word document, type 2 b, and then write what the practice of dental hygiene does not include.
3. Read Section 1761. On your Word document, type the number 3, and then write what procedures a dental hygienist is authorized to perform under direct supervision (and after being board-approved).
4. Read Section 1762. On your Word document, type the number 4, and then write what procedures a dental hygienist is authorized to perform under general supervision.
5. Read Section 1763. On your Word document, type the number 5, and then write what a dental hygienist may do without supervision.
6. Read Section 1764. On your Word document, type the number 6, and then write what the regulations say about procedures performed or services provided that do not specifically require direct supervision.
7. Read Section 1765.
8. Look over Section 1766. You will want to understand all that goes into being licensed in the State of California!
9. Read Section 1768. This refers to extended functions, which are becoming increasingly important to dental hygienists. Read Section 1775 which specifies regulations for dental hygienists in alternative practice. On your Word document, type the number 9 (the numbers 7 and 8 will not be on your Word document) and then write a brief summary about what kinds of alternative practice settings are covered, and what a registered dental hygienist in alternative practice is not allowed to do -- look for subsection (c)..
Implementation of the Dental Practice Act
Click to go to Dental Practice Act (second one listed) which is part of the California Code of Regulations Title 16, Division 10, Section 1000. These regulations implement the law you were just reading.
Scroll down to Chapter 3, then click on Article 5.

Click to go to Section 1088. RDH Duties and Settings
Read (c), (d) and (e). You will want to be familiar with these regulations.
10. Go to your Word document. Type the number 10 and write brief summaries about what (c), (d) and (e) cover.
11. Scroll down to Section 1090. RDHAP Duties and Settings. Go to your Word document, type the number 11, and briefly summarize what Section 1090 covers.

Go back to the Regulations - Chapter 3, Article 5 page. Click on Committee on Dental Auxiliaries (over on left under QUICK HITS):

Scroll down to click on Upcoming Law Changes
Click on Upcoming Law Changes. This is where announcements are made about changes in the regulations. "Ignorance is no excuse."

12. Go to your Word document, type the number 12 and summarize the changes referred to.
