You'll need some focused discussion about specific topics, e.g., community
dental health, preventive dentistry, controversies about fluoride.
1. Academic
Search Premier provides access to information about articles
published in approximately 8,000 periodicals (both magazines and journals)
for about the last 10-15 years. For about 4,000 of those periodicals,
full text copies of the articles are in the database. For those of
you for whom this is new, here's how you use Academic Search
Premier.
- Go to the
Cabrillo College Library homepage
- Click on
Full Text Articles [If you are coming in from off campus,
type in your library card number]
- On the next
screen, under Health and Medicine (center column),
click on Academic Search Premier
- On the next
screen, click on

- Click in
the small box next to Full Text.

This will limit your search to articles that are fulltext in the
database.
- Type in your
search terms. Then click on Search

More and more videos
are available on the Web. I am not guaranteeing that you'll find good
videos that relate just to the dental hygiene services you'll be investigating,
but you should know that the world of videos on the Internet is there,
and is growing. Since anyone can upload videos, and zillions of people
do, the quality is uneven. Sometimes, the ratings (number of stars next
to a video title) help you select.
The main outlets
for videos on the Web are
Look for videos
by typing in "dental hygiene" so you can get a notion of what's
available. To play a video in the classroom, you have to disable the
popup blocker on the computer. To do that, hold down the Ctrl
key (lower left of keyboard) when you click to get the video.

an image to a Word document |
The Web is rich
in images. You'll want to know how to copy an image into a Word document.
If you can't do this in your sleep, go through these steps.
To
get an image, use one of these:
Once
you have your image, to insert it into a Word document, follow these
steps:
1. From the
Start menu bring up Word
2. Right click on the image. Scroll down to Copy
3. Go to your Word document. Position your cursor to where you want
your image to be. Paste the picture (File -> Paste;
or, use Ctl V)
4. Under (or near) the image, type the word Source
and include the title of the Web site and its URL. (You can just copy
and paste the URL into your Word document -- Ctrl C to copy;
Ctrl V to paste)
Your
image is there. You can write next to and below the image.
To put text around the image -- click on the image, go to Format
-> Picture. Click on Layout tab, and select the layout
format you want.
