Literature Resource Center
The library subscribes to a variety of fulltext databases that are rich and diverse information resources. One of these is especially useful for learning about writers.
  1. Go to the Cabrillo College Library homepage
  2. Click on Fulltext Articles (second icon down, on left)
  3. Click on Literature Resource Center (on left, at bottom)
  4. On the next screen, in the search box under the term Author Search, type in an writer's name -- last name first
  5. When you get your results, click on the line underneath the author's name (that's the hypertext link to the text about the author).

Online Encyclopedia
The library subscribes to an excellent online encyclopedia. Here's how to get to it:

  • Go to the Cabrillo College Library homepage
  • Click on Fulltext Articles (second icon down, on left)
  • Click on Britannica Online Encyclopedia (in righthand column)

Using the online encyclopedia, look up information on a topic that interests you.

Watsonville or Santa Cruz Public Library
You can find books in the Cabrillo College Library by going to the library homepage and clicking on Library Catalog.

If you are in Watsonville, you are close to Watsonville Public Library, and you can look for books in that library. And/or, you can look for books in the Santa Cruz Public Libraries online!

Check for Web Resources
There are a number of search engines that index the World Wide Web. The one you are going to use is called Google -- it's one of the best.
  1. Go to the Cabrillo College Library homepage
  2. Click on Search the Internet
  3. On the next screen, click on Search Engines
  4. On the next screen, click on Google

Click in the search box, and type in your search terms, using quotation marks to keep words together, e.g., "Santa Cruz"

Search for Web resources about your favorite writer.

 Find Magazine Articles in EBSCOhost's Academic Search Elite.
EBSCOhost's Academic Search Elite lets you search and display fulltext articles from over 3,000 periodicals. Here's how you use it:
  1. From the Cabrillo College Library homepage, click on Fulltext Articles

  2. (if you were accessing this from off campus, your library card number is your
    user ID) 
  3. Select Magazine & Journal Articles (EBSCOhost) (top left of your screen)
  4. On the next screen, click on
  5. On the next screen, click on  box towards the top of the screen.
  6. Click in the small box next to Full Text -- this will limit your search to articles that are fulltext in the database.

    Type in your search terms and then click on the SEARCH button. Look for an article on a topic that interests you.

From the results list, click on the article title to get full information about it.

You'll note that this article is now fulltext on your screen. Use the scroll bar on the righthand side of your screen to scroll down through the article. Try emailing the article to yourself.
