Selecting an African-American to introduce

Use these resources to select someone you would like to introduce

Now, research that person!! Use Biography Resource Center -- not everyone will be written about in this resource, but many will be!
  1. Go to the Cabrillo College Library homepage <http://libwww.cabrillo.edu>
  2. Click on Full Text Articles (second icon down, on left)
  3. Click on Biography Resource Center (At top, in the center) If you were accessing this from off campus just type in your library card number.

    When you get your results, click on the line underneath the person's name to get to the text about the person.

Search for information about your person. If your person isn't in Biography Resource Center, go on to the next section of the exercise.

Take some notes here about something you learned.

CREDO reference

The library subscribes to a reference resource titled Credo reference which gives access through a single interface to the insides of several hundred reference books, including biographical dictionaries.

  1. Go to the Cabrillo College Library homepage
  2. Click on Full Text Articles (second icon down, on left)
  3. Click on CREDO reference (under Encyclopedias/Background Information)

Cabrillo College Reference Books

In the front of the classroom is a book truck with Reference books about African Americans. You are welcome to look in those books for information about your person. Here are the titles and call numbers for those books, so you can come back to the Library and use them later:

Search for information about your person. Note down the call number of any books you identify as useful sources. Not everyone has a whole book written about them, so don't get nervous if you don't find one!

Periodical articles
  1. Go to the Cabrillo College Library homepage

  3. Select Academic Search Premier (top left of your screen, under General)
  4. Click to go to   
  5. Click in the small box next to Full Text -- this will limit your search to articles that are fulltext in the database.


    Next to the word FIND, type in your search terms and then click on the SEARCH button.
