How to get to this page on the Internet




Getting Periodical Articles

Academic Search Premier provides information about articles published in approximately 8,150 periodicals; for 4,500 of those periodicals, full text copies of the articles are available to you online.

  1. Go to the Cabrillo College Library homepage 
  2. Click on Full Text Articles [second icon down on left]
  3. The next screen is a list of the databases available to you. Academic Search Premier is listed under Social Sciences. [It is also listed under General.] Click to bring it up. If you are coming in from off campus, you type in your library card number to gain access.
  4. Click to go to the Advanced Search mode


  5. Click to limit your search to full text as shown here. You can also click to limit your search to academic journal articles.
  6. Type in your terms and hit SEARCH. Here's a search for articles on temper tantrums in preschoolers:

Search for an article on a topic related to this class that interests you. If you don't have a topic already in mind, try one of these:

disruptive behaviors in children autism
anxiety and children eating disorders and children


When you get a list of results, click on an article title to get full information about it.

Your turn! Look for an article on a topic of interest. Note down basic information about one article you find:

Try emailing at least one article to yourself.

Another database called Psychology and Behavioral Sciences covers about 570 periodicals in psychology and the behavioral sciences. It works the same as Academic Search Premier.

  1. Go to the Library homepage
  2. Click on Full Text Articles
  3. Select Psychology and Behavioral Science under Social Sciences

Search using the same topic, or a different one. Note down basic information about one article you find:

Getting Articles about Minorities

Ethnic NewsWatch covers newspapers, magazines and journal articles from ethnic, minority and native presses; interdisciplinary.

  1. Go to the Cabrillo College Library homepage
  2. Click on Full Text Articles (second icon down on left)
  3. Under News (top right), click on Ethnic NewsWatch

Search using the same topic, or a different one. Notice that once you get search results, Ethnic NewsWatch will suggest topics to you. This can be a big help!

Getting Books

Books -- Regular print books: To identify books in the library on your topic, from the library homepage, click on Library Catalog. What did you find?

eBooks -- The library has about 18,000 electronic books available online through NetLibrary. To get to them:

  1. Go to the Cabrillo College Library homepage
  2. Click on Full Text Articles (second icon down on left)
  3. Under General (top left), click on NetLibrary E-Books

Search on a topic of your choice. Use quotation marks to keep words in phrases together, e.g., "active listening."

But: remember -- you can get already formatted citations for articles you find in the library's periodical databases.
