College Archives In The Swenson Library

Archives Information:

The Cabrillo College Archives was created to collect, preserve, and make available records and documents of the Cabrillo College community. The Archives serves as an information source for students, faculty, staff, and administration, as well as to the general public. Materials are retrieved from the Archives by library staff and can be examined in the Reference area. Archvies materials may not be removed from the building but some materials may be photocopied.

Digital Archives

The Cabrillo College Digital Archives project was initiated in Summer 2008 to provide wider access to selected historical documents and materials located in and maintained by the Cabrillo College Library. As of April 2009, the Digital Archives includes over 300 photographs and portraits, hundreds of newspaper clippings, several early yearbooks, staff directories and many other items. Materials have been selected primarily from the earlier years of the college, from 1959 to 1980.

Viewing materials stored in the Archives

• Administrators, faculty, and staff at Cabrillo are allowed to go up into the Archives and view materials on site.
  A librarian or staff member will escort them to the Archives and provide a quick tour of materials.
• Archives materials requested by students and the general public will be retrieved by a librarian or library staff member, and made available for viewing in the vicinity of the Reference Desk.

Using the Library Catalog to find materials held in the Archives

1. Begin at the Library home page (http://libwww.cabrillo.edu) and click on the Library Catalog button.
2. Click on the Advanced Keyword link.
3. Type your keywords (i.e. facilities, sabbatical reports, etc.) in the search box.
4. Click on the drop-down menu arrow next to Location and select Archives.
5. Click on Submit button.
