Computer Access

Computers in the Cabrillo College Library

The Library has 63 desktop computers available for student use, as well as 21 laptops and 2 iPads, which students may borrow (laptop details). All computers have Microsoft Office 2010 software, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

To use the computers in the Library, you will need to:

  • Be a registered Cabrillo student for the current semester
  • Get a network account name and password: https://student-accounts.cabrillo.edu/
  • A limited number of computers are available during non-peak times for non-students to use for no more than one hour.

Creating a student network account for campus computers, campus wireless, and Blackboard (click for details)

  • Student network accounts can be created on or off campus at https://student-accounts.cabrillo.edu/. There are express stations in the library to look up or activate your account.
  • You will need your student ID number to activate your account. You can ask at the circulation desk if you need to find your student ID number. It's also on your registration, bus pass or student activity card.
  • You must activate your account every semester.
  • Your account gives you access to the library's desktop computers, Blackboard, the campus wireless network using either your own laptop or a library laptop, and campus computers in the Cabrillo College Student Domain. Webadvisor uses a different account.

Assistive Software in the Library (click for details)

Specific computers in the Library also come with such assistive software as Kurzweil, JAWS, and Zoomtext. See the librarian at the Reference Desk or speak to DSPS for more information.

Connect to Wireless Network (click for details)

Cabrillo offers two options for wireless access on our campuses:

  • hawknet, an unsecure, open wireless network
  • secure-hawknet, a secure, protected wireless network

Both networks supply a speedy connection, but secure-hawknet offers two benefits:

  • An encrypted connection between your computer and our wireless access points
  • Requires you to log in only once per semester, per device
  • Cabrillo's IT department highly recommends that you use secure-hawknet, if possible.
