Microfiche Readers: "Petunia" and "Rose"
Directions for using "Petunia" Minolta RP603Z
Loading "Petunia" the microfiche reader
-
Turn the power on (bottom right side)
-
Make sure that you are using Petunia for fiche (the names are on the tops
of the machines).
If you are using Marigold or Gladys for fiche, the print will be far too
small to comfortably read. If you are using "Rose" (for ultrafiche) the print will be far too large.
-
Pull out the fiche tray on the bottom, right side until the glass pops
up
-
The word "fiche" should appear on the display
-
Put the fiche sheet in face down
-
Push the tray in about half way. Move it to the left until the fiche
is under the lens.
Using "Petunia":
-
To rotate the fiche, turn the round knob sticking out in the middle.
-
To travel side-to-side on the fiche, simply move the tray from side to
side.
-
To advance the fiche, move the tray up or down.
-
To unload the fiche, pull the tray back to the right, pull it all the way
out until the glass pops up.
Troubleshooting "Petunia":
-
If you have attempted to load the fiche and an E-1 or E-2 error is showing
in the display area, try
loading it again. Clear the error message first by pressing the unmarked
button on the right side of
the small display screen.
- If an E-4 error is showing, put a roll of film in the machine, advance
it as far as possible by hand, then push the "Rewind" button to unload it.
It should then load properly (the machine still senses a roll of film because
the last person using the machine probably used it for film instead of fiche
and pulled their film out by hand). More specific directions are on
page 17 of the UC-2 Manual kept under Marigold.
-
If the bulb is too dim, check the lens to see that it is snugly pushed
all the way back in place.
-
If any error message shows that is preceded by a "C," turn off the power,
unplug the machine, let
it sit for 60 seconds, and then recycle the power back on.
Directions for Using "Rose:" The Ultramicrofiche Reader
Canon PC Printer 80
Loading "Rose"
This reader is used with the Library of American
Civilization (LAC) collection on ultramicrofiche.
Using "Rose":
-
The power switch is at the front of the machine on the right side towards
the bottom.
-
Pull the fiche carrier out until the glass holder pops up.
-
Place the film in the carrier, then push it back in under the lens.
-
The focus ring is on the projection lens.
-
This is not the brightest illumination bulb in the world. The film
is a bit dimly lit and may be a bit hard
to read.
Printing from "Rose"
-
Check the illumination intensity switch on the back of the machine.&
Make sure that it is on "High"
(switched towards the top.)
-
Make sure that the print density level (on the front of the machine) is
set to 9.
-
Check the button on top of the print density lever. Make sure that
it is all the way to the left.
-
The film selection button (in the front, middle section of the machine,
tucked under the fiche carrier
mechanism) should be to the right on "16 mm."
Troubleshooting "Rose"
If there is a paper jam, or if the printer is
out of paper, open the door on the right side of the machine to take
care of the situation.
