Microfilm Reader/Printers: "Marigold" and "Gladys"
Minolta RP630Z
Loading the machines
- Turn the power on (bottom right side.)
- Make sure that you are using either Marigold or Gladys
for microfilm (the names are on the tops of the
machines). If you try to use Petunia for
microfilm, the print will be too large to fit on one page of the screen because she is set up specifically for viewing FICHE. (This has to do with the magnification capabilities of the lenses which are in each machine.)
- The loading assembly needs to be up. (Push
the green button on the bottom left side of the reader in order to release it.)
- Put the film on the spindle, with the film coming
off the top of the roll. Make sure the roll is seated flush against the back wall of the spindle device, or it won't load properly. (Some of the reels are hard to seat properly. Tip: Look at the side/back of the reel, line up the angles, press firmly.)
- Feed the film about one inch into the green track.
- Close the loading assembly.
- Push the "Load/Rewind" button in the right.
The film should automatically advance into position.
Using the machines
- To rotate the film turn the round knob sticking out
in the middle.
- To travel side-to-side on the film, use the "Scan"
lever.
- To advance the film, turn the "Forward/Reverse" knob
clockwise.
- To rewind the film or to travel backwards, turn the
"Forward/Reverse" knob counter-clockwise.
Troubleshooting
- If you have attempted to load the film and an E-1
or E-2 error is showing in the display area, try loading it again. Clear the error message
by pressing the unmarked button on the right of the display screen.
- Never pull out your film by hand to unload it; the
machine will not function correctly for the next user.
- If an E-4 error is showing, put a roll
of film in the machine, advance it as far as possible by hand, then push the "Rewind" button to unload it.
It should then load properly (the machine still senses a roll of film because the last person pulled their
film out by hand.)
- Always make sure that the fiche tray is pushed all
the way in. If it isn't, the display will say "fiche" instead of "roll."
-
If the bulb is too dim, check the lens to see that
it is snugly pushed all the way back in place.
- If any error message shows that is preceded with
a "C," turn off the power, unplug the machine, let it sit for 60 seconds, and then recycle the power back.
- The user manual (usually stored on a clipboard under
Marigold) can talk you through paper jams and toner cartridge changes. Make sure that
you try tapping the toner cartridge before you change it. This may
break up clumps of toner material which have stuck to the walls of the
cartridge.
- To load more paper for printing, pull out the paper
tray (on the bottom, right side of the machine), fill it, and push it back in.
- If the bulb goes out completely, chances are that
the machine has simply overheated and shut itself off automatically.
Wait for at least 15 or 20 minutes, and then try turning the machine back
on. If the bulb still doesn't come back on, then it may truly be
burned out and need replacing.
- Make sure that the machine is set at "35 mm" for film size, not "16 mm."
